Settlements and City Strategies by Lekan Jeyifous

Lekan Jeyifo (tumblr / twitter)

This series contains abstracted planimetric drawings and eerily-serene cityscapes that suggest the changing contours of urban settlements. They represent an idea of a degenerate futurism, yet one might find similar typologies and scenes in places such as the favelas of Brazil and North Africa, and in overpopulated cities such as Lagos, Mexico City, and Mumbai. Though outputted digitally, the drawings possess a textured and painterly quality as a result of combining hand-drawn sketches, industrial textures, surfaces of deteriorated paper, and digital architectural models.
A constant interplay between digital and analog processes is important in my work, resulting in a highly layered set of documents. The drawings presented here started out as digital images that were outputted, sketched and drawn over, and scanned back into the computer in order to be retraced, textured, and layered

Tahukah kalian kalau material organik mampu mengantarkan dan menjadi sumber listrik natural? Begini jadinya jika mereka dipertemukan dan disatukan menjadi rangkaian listrik alami: sanggup menghidupi lampu LED.

Dan, voila, artistik!

Many Palestinians still carry around their neck the key to their homes in Palestine - homes that they were forced to leave and cannot return to.

Al Nakba is the name Palestinians give to 15th May, 1948 when the State of Israel established itself on the lands, homes and lives of the Palestinian people.

Al Nakba translates to “The Catastrophe”.

Al Nakba was the moment when the Palestinian people became a nation of refugees. 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes and forced to live in refugee camps. Many who were unable to flee were massacred.

Al Nakba remains in the Palestinian consciousness as the time when their freedom was stolen and to this day it is yet to be returned.

Al Nakba is the soil in which many Palestinian stories are buried, and it is the aspiration of this project 1948 to bring some of these stories to the surface.

What has kept the Palestinians alive since Al Nakba is the dream of return to their land. It is their survival and determination that we also wish to celebrate.

This was last year’s project dedicated to the Palestinian Catastrophe.

Dikala pagi…ufuk pun menyambut dengan sinarnya

Bersama terik jalan sunyi pun terasa berdahaga

Terdiam…Merenung…Kabur?
